Brixham is home to the world famous Brixham Fish Market which is now the largest fish market in England by value of fish sold. In 2017 this was in excess of £40,000,000. The town has seen significant investment in the last 10 years and the bustling Harbourside is now surrounded by a wide range of pubs, shops and restaurants to cater for everyone.

A Brief History of Brixham

The town is steeped in history from the landings of Prince William of Orange in 1688 to the Napoleonic Forts at Berry Head Country Park. It is said that Napoleon himself was captured in Brixham and kept in the cells in what is now The New Quay Inn, located just off the harbour side. Away from the harbour the oldest part of the town is known as Higher Brixham or ‘Cowtown’ which dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 when there were 39 recorded households, much of the town at this point made a living from farming.
