Considering a home extension without planning perm

Permitted development rights allow you to make certain changes WITHOUT PLANNING PERMISSION. Here's a really brief guide:

At the rear, you can extend up to 3m back for a terraced, semi or link detached house, 4m for a detached house.
The maximum height is 4m, or 3m if it falls within 2m of a neighbouring property.
You must not cover more than half the area of the land around your property, and must not fall within 7m of the rear boundary.
You can also build a two storey extension up to the height of the existing roof line.
You can also extend to the side of your property, single storey, with the same height restrictions - but you cannot extend to the front elevation without planning permission.
You must use similar style and building materials to the rest of the house.
Permitted development rules also apply to certain outbuildings, loft and garage conversions.
Different rules apply in conversion areas, and vary slightly across the devolved nations.
